What is an NHS Health Check?
An NHS Health Check is a free health assessment available to adults in England that helps evaluate your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease, and some forms of dementia. It aims to detect early warning signs and provide support to help you maintain good health.

What happens during an NHS Health Check?
The NHS Health Check is split into two appointments.
The first appointment is for a blood test to check your kidney function, liver function, blood sugar and cholesterol.
On the day of your blood test, we ask if you could please collect your blood form from your GP surgery and then check in at the first-floor reception.
When you check in, please ask our reception team to book your second appointment.
The second appointment is a face-to-face health check with a healthcare professional who will:
- Ask about your lifestyle and family health history
- Measure your blood pressure, weight, and height
- Review your blood test results.
- Discuss your blood test results and overall health.
Based on your results, you may receive advice, support, or referrals to help reduce your risk.
Who runs the service?
The NHS Health Check service at Macclesfield is run by Physician Associates from our six practices, who are trained to carry out these assessments and support you to stay healthy.
